Ricardo & Catalina: My Very First Surprise Engagement Session!
Let me start out by saying this: one of my (if not THE) most important values is honesty. I. DON'T. LIE. Now, that is not at all to say that I'm a perfect person. Perfect? No. HONEST? Absolutely.
So as you can probably guess, I was immensely nervous when Ricardo reached out to me for a surprise engagement session for he and Catalina. Might I add, it wasn't just me hiding in the bushes and photographing the moment he popped the question. You see, Ricardo & Catalina live in Bogota, Colombia. They came to Hawai'i for a vacation and really wanted to explore Waipio Valley. I wasn't going to let them take the trek alone while I have a very capable 4 wheel drive vehicle that can comfortably fit 4 people. And so, our plan was born...
We told Catalina that we were going on a "photography adventure" in Waipio Valley. And by we, I mean Ricardo told her and I nodded my head and smiled. The day came, and we headed down in hopes of catching the sunrise. Unfortunately, it was a stormy day; totally not the golden valley we are used to... but it was beautiful nonetheless.
The ring was so tightly packed in its box, Catalina stepped in to help take it out! Ricardo was joking that "If you can't get it out within 5 seconds, the deal is off!"
She definitely got it out :)
The sun came up, we adventured around the valley and then headed over to the nearby town of Honoka'a, where we ate breakfast together. The restaurant had a map and Ricardo & Catalina commemorated the day with their very own pin on it! Although we didn't get the golden morning we were looking for, and I had never lied so much in my entire life, I am so grateful for this day and these people!
