Perfect, Rainy Bliss: Keanu & Erika
I remember Keanu as a 6 yr old boy, running around on the soccer field on the same team as my oldest son Christian. I met Erika while serving at New Hope Church Hilo many years ago.
It's so funny for me to think that I knew each of them separately, long before they began dating or even speaking for that matter. Not because they aren't their own separate people and special to me individually... they definitely are. What makes it funny to me is the fact that together, they are a whole different type of special. The kind of special that you can't help but notice time and time again. They are so different, but even more so the same. They balance each other out perfectly, and watching them together will make anyone smile.
These two tied the knot at the exact place their love began- New Hope Church Hilo. Nestled in Waiakea Uka, this region of Hilo is especially known to be rainy, but on clear days, there is ALWAYS golden afternoon light and a stunning view of Mauna Kea.
It rained for 5 straight days before the wedding, and the day of was no exception.
It very much reminded me of my wedding; it rained and rained.
Despite the rain, I couldn't help but notice that not a single person seemed disappointed. I arrived at the hair salon where the bridal party was getting ready, and every single person inside was smiling from ear to ear, excitement overflowing from them as they ate their Chinese food. They knew it was raining. It didn't matter. When we arrived at the church, nothing had changed. The reception tent had rain water seeping onto its floor. It didn't matter. Keanu & Erika were getting MARRIED. That was ALL that mattered.
You know that kind of joy that just emanates from someone? That's what I felt. Every person there had that joy, which was what made the day so perfect. (Along with the AMAZING attention Erika put into all the little elegant details)
