Adventures Old & New: Micah & Cheri
When Cheri requested that part of her's and Micah's engagement session be in Waipi'o Valley, I was totally thrilled. When she agreed to go at sunrise, I was totally extremely insanely thrilled.
We met at 3:30 in the morning right outside of Hilo and headed out! Arriving in the valley at around 5:15 am, we had a bit of time to relax and wait for the sun to rise... that's when we felt it. Tiny cold drops of water dusting our hair and skin. "It can't rain... we've been praying and praying for an amazing golden sunrise. It'll pass." we said to ourselves, mentally (and verbally) reminding ourselves that we had about 45 more minutes until the sun came up, and that that was a lot of time for the rain & clouds to pass.
The rain did, but the clouds did not.
Even though we didn't get the golden sunrise we were hoping for, we still got gorgeous light and brilliant clouds! Micah & Cheri were totally troopers and were joyful through it all, and we had an AMAZING morning! I got to learn more about them as people and their love story, which leads to the location of the second "half" of their engagement session!
Pu'u Huluhulu, or "Bird Hill" is a hill that features a few trails hikers can trek filled with amazing forestry and some native wild birds. (hence the name "Bird Hill") It is located almost directly across the road from the Mauna Kea access road and is absolutely stunning. Pu'u Huluhulu is extra meaningful to Micah & Cheri as it is where Micah proposed! After Bird Hill, we actually visited the exact tree in an area nearby in which they carved their first initials on their first date!
I am so grateful to know Micah & Cheri and had so much fun capturing this special season for them. Before we know it, it'll be their wedding day and I can't wait!
