Wed in Wainaku: Jacob & Hi'i's Pristine Hilo Wedding
Hi'ilani and Jacob's wedding day was an insanely beautiful one, with a sky blue as far as the eye could see. Their ceremony also included a feet washing ceremony, which was so very special. The feet washing ceremony comes from the Bible; Jesus washed his disciples' feet before he was arrested as an act of love and service to them. To let them know that he would do anything for them, because he loved them that much. Jacob & Hi'i decided to do the same for each other at their wedding as a public and spiritual declaration of their love and service to each other. It was my first time photographing a feet washing ceremony, and I was so moved and so honored.
The wedding took place at Wainaku Executive Center, a gorgeous venue about 10 minutes outside of Hilo. Most weddings that I have either photographed or attended there have included the infamous big white reception tent; because everyone knows how unpredictable Hilo's weather can be: but not this one! Jacob & Hi'i's loved ones sat on beautifully decorated tables under the clearest Hawai'i evening sky.
Both Hi'i and Jacob come from big families- Hi'i has 4 sisters and Jacob 8 siblings. Yes, you read that correctly. There was so much love and joy among both families and this wedding was an amazing union of two large and loving families!
